Hand Made Quilt by Celia Avery

Hand Made Quilt by Celia Avery

This beautiful quilt was hand sewn by my mama, Celia Avery.   It is a treasured gift that will become a family heirloom someday.  I love roses and hummingbirds and my mom captured my passion for the two with a hand embroidered hummingbird and a counted cross stitch rose.  I love my quilt!  Hubby, Larry made the beautiful quilt hanger too.

Favorite Taco Salad

Favorite Taco Salad

I got this recipe from a church member at a potluck dinner.  It makes a lot of salad and is great for any gathering.  Enjoy!

1 pound of ground beef
1 package of taco seasoning (not hot)
1  14 ounce can of red kidney beans, drained and rinsed
One large head of iceberg lettuce or 2 small, washed and dried well
(A salad spinner works great here)
5 Roma tomatoes , chopped fine
1 cup of finely chopped red onion
3 cups of shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1  16 ounce bottle of Thousand Island Dressing
1 large bag of Nacho Cheese Flavor Doritos, crushed.  It's easy to just
open the bag and lay it flat on the counter and crush with your palms.

Brown the ground beef in a large frying pan.  Add the taco seasoning with 3/4 cup of water, stir well, add the kidney beans and simmer for 5 minutes.  Remove from heat and let totally cool to room temperature.  Meat mixture should not be warm at all.

Tear the lettuce into a very large bowl.  Add the tomatoes and onion.
Stir in the completely cooled meat mixture.  Next, stir in all of the Thousand Island dressing and mix well.  Add the cheese and Doritos; mixing well.
Serve with favorite salsa or all on its own.

Cheap and Easy Packing Material

Cheap and Easy Packing Material

Here is an easy and inexpensive way to make your own packing material with items you probably already have on hand.  Just wad up newspaper pages and stick them into a plastic shopping bag you get from the store with your items.  Tie the bag shut and you have great packing material without getting newsprint on the item(s) you are going to ship.

Glazed Drumsticks

Glazed Drumsticks

2 packages of chicken drumsticks, about 10 to 12 in each package
1 1/2 Tbs cornstarch
1 tsp salt
1/8 tsp pepper
1/2 cup sugar
1 tsp ginger
1/3 cup lemon juice
1/4 cup soy sauce
3/4 cup of water

Preheat oven to 425 degrees.  Place drumsticks in a single layer on a baking sheet.
Bake, turning once, for 30 minutes.  Mix the remaining ingredients into a
saucepan.  Cook, stirring constantly until mixture thickens and boils.  About 3 minutes.
Brush part of the sauce over the drumsticks.  Continue baking the chicken, turning and
brushing several times with the sauce until the chicken is done and richly glazed.  If you
like more glaze on your chicken, double the sauce recipe.   Enjoy!

Grandma Nellie Moore Avery Banfield

Grandma Nellie Moore Avery Banfield

Above is the article in the Sunday Commerce Paper Newspaper of March 7, 1976.  http://www.coca-colacompany.com/history/2009/10/spotlight-on-the-world-of-cocacola-betty-and-elaine.html

When my grandmother was 16, she modeled for Coca Cola.  She told us the hat she wore in her image on the tray cost her $6.00.  Her dress was $20.00.  Both were expensive back in 1921.  Above is a newspaper article from 1976.

My daughter, Kristen gave me this tray for my birthday.  She put the Coca Cola coaster of grandma at the bottom corner and made the beautiful flowers at the top opposite corner.  I added the Graphic 45 Place in Time paper embellishments along with images of grandma.
